How to make a turtle enclosure? 

If you decide to make a homemade tortoise enclosure, you must create a safe and vital space where the animal can live in good conditions. If this is not possible, especially in the case of an indoor tortoise, you can always install a UV bulb that mimics the sun's rays and helps the tortoise in its growth and reproduction.

Consider using a substrate like coconut coir, which retains heat and provides a softer, more comfortable, and more natural surface for your tortoise. A heating mat can also help create a warm zone in your tortoise's cage.

To allow the tortoise to cool off from time to time, you can create a shallow water point to avoid the risk of drowning. If you have a water turtle, don't hesitate to create a larger pond and install a turtle platform that will act as a beach where the animal can rest whenever it wants. For an indoor turtle, opt for an aquarium adapted to its size. 

Finally, plan a dining area where you can install a food dispenser and a water dispenser in the Hermann tortoise enclosure. You can also add decorative accessories: plants, shrubs, rocks, etc.

It's essential to choose a turtle enclosure made with quality materials like wood to ensure its strength and durability. The materials should not pose any risk to the animal's health or injure it. 

What size turtle enclosure? 

Generally speaking, animals need space to thrive. It is therefore advisable to choose a spacious garden turtle enclosure that will allow the turtle to move around and bask comfortably. This is also essential for the reptile's well-being. To choose a terrarium to the right size, start by measuring the animal's shell, the enclosure should be 7 to 10 times larger. 

The size of the enclosure should also depend on the number of turtles you have. For example, if you have a pair of turtles, plan a turtle cage twice as large. Finally, consider the turtle's age. If you have a juvenile turtle, you can choose an enclosure that's appropriate for its size and expand it as it grows. Or, find out how big the turtle will be as an adult and choose an enclosure that's the final dimensions.
