How to set up a turtle terrarium? 

Before you begin, it's important to know that your tortoise terrarium must be large enough to allow your tortoises to thrive and develop comfortably. This also makes it easier to set up your tortoise terrarium by replicating your tortoise's natural habitat. 

To set up a terrarium for a Hermann tortoise, you must put the following elements in place: 

• Substrate: Create a comfortable and healthy bedding within your turtle terrarium to allow your turtle to rest in a dry place. To do this, you can buy a roll of coconut turtle land made from natural, sustainable and economical materials.
• Lighting: In their natural habitat, water or land turtles need sunlight to survive and develop properly. To compensate for this lack, consider installing a light source in the turtle vivarium. There are different types of UV bulbs suitable for this purpose (UVB lamp for calcium, UVA lamp for feeding and activity). 
• Heating : To ensure your turtle's comfort, the interior of your tortoise terrarium should include a warm zone and a cool zone. To create a warm zone, you can install heating cables or a heating mat. 
• Decorations: To replicate the habitat of an exotic turtle, you can also add decorative accessories to your tortoise terrarium, such as hiding places, flat stones, artificial plants, and other plants. To allow your reptile to cool off from time to time, you can also create a watering area and a beach. Finally, include a feeder/watering trough in your tortoise vivarium to keep it fed and hydrated. 

Which turtle terrarium should I choose? 

When choosing a turtle terrarium, there are a few criteria to consider. To start with, consider the size of your turtle. The dimensions of the vivarium should be proportional to those of your reptile. It's best to choose a terrarium 5 to 10 times larger than your turtle so it can thrive.
